Wheelhouse Salon greets you with the glorious smell of Oribe products and an eclectic, Americana vibe. This hair haven is situated in a revamped old residence that houses some of the country’s top stylists in the burgeoning Southern city of Birmingham, Alabama.
Wheelhouse owner Courtney Grimes is a hair phenom – styling bands for national magazines and traveling the country to consistently hone her craft alongside the best of the best.
Courtney’s passion for hair and entrepreneurship began as a kid scheduling hair appointments in the halls at school. She carried that entrepreneurial spirit into adulthood where, after 14 years of experience, she was able to make her dreams a reality by opening a salon of passionately creative stylists dedicated to the folks in their chairs.
At Wheelhouse’s inception, Courtney knew she wanted to create an environment where anyone could feel comfortable, a place for people to be inspired and be heard. “What we do here is important and if you offer a place where people feel like they belong, you’ll have a much easier time getting to know them and their personal style.”
Courtney draws inspiration from those who sit in her chair and whether a client is looking for something new, classic, a burst of color or a texture turnover, they’re going to walk out of the salon feeling confident.
By pushing the envelope and breaking the boring hair mold, Courtney’s talent and drive have resulted in exponential growth in the salon’s short three years of existence. The “Wheelhouse Effect” created the necessity for expansion, and in 2017, a second location in a renovated historic building in the theatre district will open, fostering Wheelhouse’s place as a destination for Alabama residents and out-of-town visitors alike.
