She/Her 

Courtney grew up in Pleasant Grove, AL and has worked in hair since 2001. She began her training by doing hair in her mom’s basement, and graduated Hueytown Beauty School as a young adult. She has since attended dozens of classes all over the world. 

Courtney founded Wheelhouse in 2014. She is a close listener who loves low maintenance cuts and color, gray blending, and helping guests with thinning hair. She enjoys helping people figure out how to love their hair, and problem solving a haircut or styling challenge. Her greatest joy in this industry is connecting with people from all ages and walks of life, and making others feel heard and seen. 

When not behind the chair, Courtney likes to spend time with her husband, three children, and their poodle Sunny. You can also find her dancing at concerts, taking an exercise class, traveling, and rearranging the furniture in her house (again).

Joanna grew up in Montgomery, Alabama and is a graduate of the University of Montevallo. She has been part of the Wheelhouse team since 2021 and loves the salon’s supportive, creative atmosphere and the sense of community that comes with it. Surrounded by fashion, style, and familiar faces each day, Joanna enjoys helping things run smoothly behind the scenes and making sure both guests and staff feel taken care of. As a natural problem solver, she thrives in the fast-paced rhythm of salon life, but her favorite part of the job is building genuine relationships with clients and getting to know them personally. She also enjoys jumping in to help stylists with daily tasks whenever she can and loves listening to them talk about formulations, techniques, and creative processes. Getting a glimpse into the way their minds work is one of her favorite parts of being in the salon. To her, Wheelhouse has always felt like family.

Outside of the salon, Joanna spends much of her time diving into creative hobbies like sewing, quilting, learning to work with vintage patterns, watercolor painting, baking, and putting together flower arrangements with her mom. She’s also an avid horror reader and can usually be found listening to a good podcast while working on a project around the house. Joanna loves a good brain break after work by taking walks with her pups and spending quality time with her husband. On the weekends, you can often find her relaxing with family and sneaking away for a peaceful trip to the lake whenever possible.

She/Her

Kate has been in the hair industry since 2006. She is native to Scottsboro, AL but began her cosmetology training in California. Kate started with Wheelhouse after moving to Birmingham from Texas, and says that Wheelhouse was her first and only choice when she moved to town. She loves creating community and genuine relationships with clients, and finds fun in creatively problem solving. Plus, as anyone will tell you, she’s as efficient as all get out. If you’ve got a busy schedule, Kate will fit right in to keep you moving.

Kate adores blonding with foils, hair painting and reds. She gets excited about helping mature clients transition to their natural, beautiful gray and is also passionate about pixies, bobs, mullets, and shags. Everything and everyone is welcome in her chair!

Outside of hair, Kate loves traveling to see friends, spending time with her family and being in the woods or the water.

She/Her

Angelika is a hairstylist and industry educator with over 17 years of experience. She has served as an educator since 2010 and is a National Educator for John Paul Mitchell Systems, traveling across the United States to teach and continue her own education. With expertise across all hair textures, Angelika specializes in cutting, coloring, and blonding. Her approach centers on intentional technique, hair integrity, and creating results that are both elevated and sustainable for clients. She is also passionate about mentorship and supporting the next generation of professionals through hands-on education. Angelika brings a thoughtful, practical, and inspiring perspective to your salon experience, focused on personalized home and in-salon maintenance and personalized product recommendations.

She/Her

Madelyn is a Birmingham native who has worked with hair professionally since 2016, but her interest in hairdressing began at childhood. While she was still in high school, Madelyn completed a rigorous apprenticeship and an assistantship under her mother, who is a master stylist and salon owner.

Got a vision? Madelyn will help you bring it to life. She loves helping people feel like the best version of themselves. She enjoys doing a wide range of hair, but especially enjoys reds, blonding, lived-in brunettes, and fun cuts! It’s her mission to give you your best hair day, every day.

Outside of hair, Madelyn loves reading, hanging out with her cats, cooking, watching horror movies, and getting outside.

She/Her

Ashley is a Birmingham native that has been doing hair since 2017. She began her career training with Paul Mitchell the School, then took her education even further by assisting master stylists hands-on around the city early in her career. Ashley is an absolute queen of beautiful blondes, and loves gray blending and coverage. She excels at a natural look for both colors and cuts. Picture your hair…but even better.

If you’re curious about styling, Ashley is also a wizard of bouncy blowouts and beachy, textured waves. You’re sure to leave her chair smiling, confident, and ready to recreate your look- she loves teaching simple tricks for styling at home!

When she’s away from the salon, you can find Ashley at Trim Tab with friends, gardening with her cats, learning how to roller skate, or making fun crafts.

She/Her

Amber began her hair education in 2021 as a part of the Aveda Institute. She was born and raised in Warrior, AL but found herself in Birmingham looking for a creative salon, and became a part of Wheelhouse. She loves creating customized colors of all types to suit the lifestyles of her guests, and is a self proclaimed chemistry nerd that investigates hair down to the science.

Amber especially enjoys vivid fashion colors, creative color placements, and upstyles. You can find her as the hands behind many a braid, bun, twist, or updo around Wheelhouse! Catch her editorial styles in hair shows around the country, and her upstyles in weddings county-wide.

Amber’s favorite aspect of hair is getting to meet so many different people and learn their stories. When you sit in her chair, she makes it her priority to not only give you amazing hair, but also to provide a safe and judgment-free zone.

Outside of hair, Amber enjoys reading, doing puzzles, seeing friends and family, and hanging out with her fish, Sushi.

Jade grew up in Hoover, AL and began her training at the Aveda Institute where she cultivated a love for all kinds of hair services. She especially enjoys lived-in color, but her favorite part of being a hairstyling is getting to know you and making you feel amazing. She is an active listener that conducts a thorough consultation to figure out what works with your interests and lifestyle. When you leave, you’ll have stunning hair that feels entirely like you. 

When not behind the chair, Jade loves crafting, sewing garments, taking photos, and making art. She also loves traveling, playing with her sweet baby Warren, and hanging out with her family.

Abby grew up between Tennessee and Alabama. She began learning her craft in 2022 at Aveda and continued her education as a post-grad and completed a focused mentorship with Wheelhouse senior stylists Samantha Eversole, Angelika Thomas, and Kate Stevenson.

Abby loves doing hair because it allows her to meet new people and continue learning every day. She enjoys any and all color services, haircuts, and hair textures. She loves to give her clients haircuts that are personalized and feel uniquely theirs. It is her personal goal to create a relaxing and open environment. Whether you love conversation or prefer a quiet appointment, she is happy to accommodate!

On the weekends, you can find Abby thrifting, crafting, playing guitar, getting sucked into a movie, or watching a TV show.

Born and raised right here in the Birmingham area, Lindsey is a true local with plenty of Southern charm! She joined the Wheelhouse team in 2023 and has already found her groove among the creative and welcoming crew. From day one, she’s felt like part of the team - especially thanks to her teammates in administration who keep her encouraged and laughing!

As an admin superstar, Lindsey loves meeting new people and bringing a little sparkle in their day. She’s all about those before-and-after moments—the kind where someone walks in unsure and walks out glowing with confidence and fabulous hair. Seeing clients light up after a transformation? That’s what keeps her smiling!

When she’s not keeping things running smoothly at Wheelhouse, you’ll find Lindsey sifting through thrift stores like a true fashionista, hunting for hidden gems, or catching up with friends over coffee at Birmingham’s best spots. She’s all about good vibes, great finds, and even better hair days!

Originally from Pell City, Alabama, Sarah joined the Wheelhouse team in February 2026 and quickly fell in love with the salon’s creative energy and downtown Birmingham atmosphere. She was especially drawn to Wheelhouse’s embrace of individuality and the excitement of being right in the heart of the city’s entertainment district.

As part of the admin team, Sarah loves keeping things organized and helping the salon run smoothly day to day. From building schedules to greeting clients, she enjoys being part of each guest’s hair journey and getting to celebrate those confidence-boosting moments alongside them. One trend she’s especially excited about lately? The return of the pixie cut! She’s loved watching so many clients confidently make the leap into a bold new look.
Outside of the salon, Sarah enjoys antiquing, thrifting, gardening, baking, and spending time with friends and family. She’s a self-proclaimed Pyrex fanatic with a love for vintage mid-century housewares and handmade quilts. When she’s not treasure hunting or sipping a vanilla latte, she’s probably snacking on Dot’s pretzels, listening to folk or bluegrass music, or rewatching Golden Girls and NCIS.

Sarah and her husband also share a love for baseball and are on a mission to visit as many MLB stadiums as possible together. At home, she stays busy loving on her three pets — two cats named Mickey and Minnie, and her dog Harper.
